Thomas O. Stierwalt, 68, of Chester, WV., passed on Friday, November 3, 2017, at the Weirton Medical Center after being diagnosed with cancer in August.
A military brat born in Kodiak, Ak., on February 13, 1949, he was a son of the late Henry and Marion Snyder Stierwalt.
Tom retired as a Team Leader from the AES Power Station in Monaca, PA. Tom’s passion was his grandchildren, they meant the world to him. He spent hours watching Sponge Bob Square Pants, with and without his grandchildren. Also, he was an avid photographer, focusing on nature and inanimate objects. Following graduation in 1967 from Tinora High School in Defiance, OH., Tom spent 12 and a half years as a Security Supervisor with the US Air Force. While serving his country he received distinguished recognition, including the AF Outstanding Unit Award, Republic of Vietnam Gallant Cross w/Palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, AF Good Conduct Medal w/ 2 Bronze Leaf Clusters, AF Longevity Service Ribbon w/ 4 Bronze Leaf Clusters, and the Vietnam Service Medal w/ 2 Bronze Stars.
In 2014, Tom suffered the loss of his wife, Sharon Stierwalt, they had been married on August 30, 1974.
Surviving is his children, Anne Pritchard and her husband, Daniel of Chester, WV., William Stierwalt and his wife Amy of Charleston, WV., and James Stierwalt and his wife Jamie of Chester. Also, he leaves one sister, Susie Shank and her husband, Norm of Findlay, OH; and his beloved grandchildren, Nick, Emily, Alayna, Sydney, Alexandra, Daniel, Nathan, Chloe, and Kaitlyn.
Tom’s family will celebrate his life at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester, WV., on Monday, November 6, at 3:00 p.m. Friends and family are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 3. He will be laid to rest alongside his wife, Sharon on Tuesday, November 7, at 2:00 p.m. at the Comer Cemetery in Loudendale, WV.
