William A. Springer

August 28, 1949 ~ May 16, 2017 (age 67) 67 Years Old


William A Springer, Jr (67) departed this life May 16th, 2017, after a battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS).  Bill was born in Sistersville, WV to William and Robina "Bobby" Springer, who preceded him in death.  Bill had a great love of sports; he was a well-known athlete during his high school years and an avid golfer throughout his lifetime.  Bill received his bachelor’s degree at Fairmont State College and his masters at West Virginia University.  He began his teaching career at Wells Junior High School and finished his 36 year teaching career at Oak Glen Middle School. He was a long time basketball, football and track coach for Hancock County Schools.  He also coached his children on various youth sports teams.  After retiring, Bill and his wife Jennifer spent the winters in Venice, Florida where they enjoyed the warm weather and made many lifelong friends.

He was a wonderful husband, a superb father and a faithful friend.  He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jennifer, his son Nathan (Cathy) Springer and his daughter Erin (Nicholas) Ziolkowski.  He is also survived by his mother-in-law Sheila Howlett, brother-in-law’s Paul (Margo) Howlett and Larry (Barb) Howlett as well as many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.  Also surviving is his life-long friend, Don Cline.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Joan Hadley, her husband Gene and his father-in-law Peter Howlett.  

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chester, WV.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 18th from 4pm to 8pm at Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester, WV.  A memorial Catholic Funeral Liturgy will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Sistersville, WV on Saturday May 20th at 1pm presided over by Father George Nedeff.  There will be a celebration of Bill’s life at the Sistersville Country Club following the mass and burial.
