Violet C. Mays, 91 of East Liverpool, passed away at the East Liverpool City Hospital on Monday, March 4, 2019, following a brief illness.
Born in Moundsville, West Virginia on May 20, 1927, Violet moved to Chester at an early age. She was one of three children born to the late James W. Sr. and Christina Davis.
A mother of six, her days were spent caring for her husband and children. A member of the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ in East Liverpool, Violet was a graduate of the former Chester High School where she was a majorette with the Chester High School Marching Band.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Roger W. Mays; her daughter, Janice K. Mays; and her sister, Marguerite Smith.
Violet will be deeply missed by her husband of 75 years, Roderick Mays Sr., at home; her children, Roderick Mays Jr. and his wife Diana of TN., Candice Merritt and her husband, Ronald of Florida, Rexford Mays Sr. of East Liverpool, and Jill Dailey of East Liverpool; and one brother, James W. Davis Jr. and his wife Jo Ann of Wellsville. Also, there are several grandchildren, Ronald Merritt Jr., Roderick Mays, Amy Merritt, Jennifer (JJ) Mays, Valerie Mays, Natalie Ruwe, Charlie Tarnovich, Ethan Mays, Jennifer Mays, Rexford Mays II, Hollie Mays, and Darren Dailey. Sixteen great-grandchildren survive as well.
In keeping with Violet’s wishes, no services are planned, and interment will be private. These services are being provided by the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester.
