Roderick N. Mays Sr., 94 of East Liverpool passed peacefully at his home, while in the loving care of his family on Sunday, May 31, 2020.
Born in East Liverpool on March 28, 1926, he was one of 17 children born to the late Elda and Erma Founds Mays.
A retired railroad conductor for Conrail, he attended church at the Salvation Army, and he was member of the East Liverpool Masonic Lodge. Also, he was a proud veteran of the US Navy.
His wife, Violet Mays, was the love of his life and the light of his world, she passed on March 4, 2019. Also preceding him in death was a son, Roger W. Mays, a daughter, Janice K. Mays, and his siblings, Edna Davis, Richard Mays, Aleta Stanley, Dorothy Sault, Eileen Touvelle, Robert Mays, Ralph Mays, Kenneth Mays, Ruthann Duke, Fan Schwartz, Sonny Mays, and Pauline Mays.
Left to cherish his memories are his children, Roderick Mays Jr., and his wife Diana of Tennesee, Candace Merritt and her husband, Ronald of East Liverpool, Rexford Mays Sr., of East Liverpool, and his main caregiver, Jill Dailey of East Liverpool, his grandchildren, Ronald Merritt Jr., Roderick Mays, Amy Merritt, Jennifer (JJ) Mays, Valerie Mays, Natalie Ruwe, Charlie Tarnovich, Ethan Mays, Jennifer Mays, Rexford Mays II, Hollie Mays, and Darren Dailey, and sixteen great-grandchildren, He is also survived by one sister, Honey Gilbert, and two sisters-in-law, Mary Mays, and Martha Mays.
No services are planned, and private interment will take place at Columbiana County Memorial Park. The Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester is assisting with these arrangements.
