Richard “Rick” W. Merritt, 70, of East Liverpool, passed, Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at the Truman House in New Philadelphia, OH, following a brief illness.
Born, January 30, 1951, in Salem, WV., he was a son of the late Alaska and Mary Cornell Merritt. Rick was also preceded in death by his brother, Donald Merritt, and niece, Hope Miller.
Rick was a proud veteran of the United States Army, second infantry division, serving during the Vietnam era. He later retired from Cerrone and Associates, where he worked as a Civil Engineer Project Manager.
Rick was a member of St. Clair Avenue Church of Christ. He was an avid golfer but the greatest joy in his life was spending time with his grandchildren. Rick did not know a stranger; he had quite a sense of humor and he had no problem filling the room with complete laughter.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Ellen Jo Loy Merritt; children, Tracy Marmet and her husband Will of Glenmont, OH., Scott Merritt and his wife, Heather of Moundsville, WV. and Sean Merritt and his wife Heather of Jackson, MS.; brothers, Ron Merritt and his wife Candy of Jacksonville, FL. and Bob Merritt and his wife Hope of Glenmoor, OH.; sister, Robin Lynn Miller, and her husband Harold of Wellsville. He will also be missed by his seven grandchildren, Rebekah, Jessica, Erik, Isaac, Ashley, Leah, and Landon and great-granddaughter, Gracelynn.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be held Saturday, April 3, 2021, at 11:00, am, at St. Clair Avenue Church of Christ.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Barbie Lutton, RN (his extra daughter) and the Truman House Community House of New Philadelphia.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to his family to help defray the cost. They can also be made to St. Clair Avenue Church of Christ: Attn: Rick Merritt.
