A true disciple of Christ, Ravenell L. Roberts Jr. was called home to his heavenly reward on Saturday, September 4, 2021. He passed at his home while in the loving and compassionate care of his family.
Born in Hamlin, West Virginia on October 27, 1927, he was the son of the late Ravenell L. Roberts Sr., and Inez Adkins Roberts.
Ravenell’s life revolved around his family and his church, the St. Clair Ave. Church of Christ, where he was involved in many facets of the church including Elder and song leader. He retired from Crucible Steel in Midland, and he was a veteran of the US Marines Corps., serving during the Korean Conflict.
Along with his parents, Ravenell was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosezella Roberts, his second wife, Edna Roberts, two brothers, Noel and Norris Roberts, and his sister, Mary Elizabeth Woodall.
He leaves his children, Steven Roberts of South Carolina, and Sharon Roberts of Salem, OH. Ravenell was very proud of his grandchildren. They are Melissa McKinnon, Stephanie (Ryan) Ammon, David (Jericah) McKinnon, Caleb (Jenny) McKinnon, Sara (Steve Reese) McKinnon, Rachel, and William Roberts. Fifteen great-grandchildren survive as well, Branden and Hayden Moore, Draven, Briar, Blake, and Rylan Ammon, Braylen, Gianna, and Ariana McKinnon, Jaela, Triton, and Ravenell McKinnon, Avery McKinnon, and Nico, and Shaka Reese.
Evangelist Will Montgomery will celebrate Ravenell’s life at the Arner Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, September 8, at 2:00 p.m. Friends are invited to visit with the family two hours prior to the service. He will be laid to rest in his hometown of Hamlin at the Powell Cemetery on Thursday, September 9.
