Karl Haught Sr. Obituary

 Karl F. Haught Sr., 86, a lifetime resident of East Liverpool, passed, Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born, May 1, 1935, in East Liverpool, he was a son of the late Lawrence F. and Ellen “Nellie” Bennett Haught.

He was also preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Salter Haught; 2 baby brothers; brother, Ralph Haught; sisters, Sarah Haught Dexter, and Florence “Tootie” Haught Thayer.

Karl was a graduate of East Liverpool High School Class of 1955. He was formerly employed at Crucible Steel and later retired after 30 years of service from Ohio Bell Telephone now known as AT&T.

 Karl was a Christian by faith, growing up, he attended the Baptist Church in East Liverpool and most recently attended the First Church of Christ in East Palestine. Karl was an active member in the community. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, where he was a former President of the local chapter and he held various offices at the state level. Karl was also a member of the American Clown Association and was known as “Pinkie”. He was also a member of the Calcutta Lions Club and the Beaver Creek Wildlife Center.

Karl coached for the little league football team “Glenmoor Rams”, serving 15 years. He was an official for the middle and high school track, a volunteer for Pegasus Youth Summer League, YMCA Camp Counselor, East Liverpool High School Choir and choir parent for his children, a Civil War historian, and Youth Leader at the Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking and he developed handicap swings for area state parks.

He will be deeply missed by his companion, Shirley Weldon; children, Karl Haught Jr. and his wife, Sherry of Delaware, OH., Brigitte Haught Osborn of New Waterford, OH. and Jonathan Eric Haught of Marion, OH.; grandchildren, Steve Cooper (Rachel), Erin Haught, Joey Haught, Dylan Osborn, Dalton Osborn (Kari), Zachary Haught, Seth Haught, and Sarah Haught; great-grandchildren, Emersyn Osborn, and Dylan Ropke. He will also be missed by numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim Ostick will celebrate Karl’s life, Sunday, September 12, 2021, at 1:30 PM, at First Church of Christ in East Palestine, 20 West Martin St. East Palestine, OH. 44413.
