Janet Ruth Fox, 90, went to be with her Lord and Savior at her home on Saturday, April 22, 2023.
Born on May 13, 1932, in Wellsville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Ruth Hayes McIntosh.
Janet graduated from Chester High School as a member of the Class of 1950. She married the love of her life and classmate, James E. “Elwood” Fox, on July 28, 1951. During their 71 years of marriage, they celebrated the birth of three children, Terri Lynn, James D., and Scott D.
Janet enjoyed working with Hancock County Schools in Food Service for Chester Primary School and at the First Christian Church Summer Camps. During her free time, she profoundly impacted the area’s youth as Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and as a Troop leader for the Girl Scouts.
When not dedicating her time to civic endeavors, Janet excelled as a businesswoman and bank teller for The First National Bank and Sky Bank of Chester. She made an invaluable impact as the office manager of Fox Nursing Home until her retirement in 1997, then continued as a board member contributing to the growth of The Orchards family of businesses.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Chester and a member of the Kiwanis Club.
Janet is deeply missed by her loving sons, James D. Fox and his wife, Alice of Chester, and Scott D. Fox and his fiancée, Kristin Barker of Fox Chapel; daughter, Terri Reese of Chester; grandchildren, Mallory Goodin (Chris); Kaelin Fox (Missy Reed) and Hailey Fox; great-grandchildren, Hannah Kelly, David Fox, and Levi Reed-Fox.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James E. “Elwood” Fox, son-in-law Harold Reese, and her sisters Mildred Crowe and Cora Watson.
Friends may visit with her family on Monday, April 24, 2023, from 2–4 pm and 6–8 pm at the Arner Funeral Chapel. Pastor Toby Wilson will celebrate Janet’s life Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at the Arner Funeral Chapel, at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Locust Hill Cemetery.
