Mt. Sterling, OH.
Granville Jack Houghton, 87 of Columbus, OH., and formerly of Newell, passed away at the home of his daughter in Mt. Sterling on Sunday, May 27, 2018, following a brief illness.
Jack was a son of the late Clyde and Delia G. Strader Houghton, and he was born at Crawford, WV., in Upshur County, on August 15, 1930.
He previously had worked at Globe Brick in Newell and was associated with Waterford Park Race Track before moving to Delaware where he was the Jockey Room Manager at Delaware Park.
Jack was a Methodist by faith, and he was educated at the former Wells High School in Newell.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma I. Houghton on January 2, 2018, and by one grandson, Joseph Butts.
Surviving is his children, Granville Jack Houghton Jr., and his wife Terry of New Port Richie, FL., Jim Houghton and his wife Cindy of Middletown, DL., and Mary Butts and her husband Steve of Mt. Sterling, OH. He also leaves his grandchildren, Mark and Jay Butts; his great-grandchildren, Ashley, Cody, Stevyn, and Bre’ann Butts; his sister, Ilene Arner Newton of Summerfield, FL.; his brother, Dale Houghton and his wife Judy of Wickliffe, OH., as well as several nieces and nephews.
Pastor Kara Rowe will celebrate Jack’s life with a memorial service at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Monday, June 11, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. Friends are invited to visit with the family one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Locust Hill Cemetery in Chester.
