Chester, WV.

Frances Lenora Dillon of Chester went to be with her savior and her beloved animals on Saturday, March 19, 2022. She was 80 years old, and she passed at the Stone Pear Pavilion in Chester. She was born at home in West Union, Doddridge County West Virginia on February 11, 1942. Frances was the fourth of six children born to Harry Wallace and Armatha Jane Lemasters Dillon.

She was raised in the Nazarene faith and remained dedicated to Christ he entire life. Frances was a 1962 graduate of New Cumberland High School, and over the years attended Northern Community College for computer programing and various other courses.

She first worked at Martins Pie Shop, then at the original Fox’s Nursing Home in Chester. Also, she was a nurse’s aide at Weirton General Hospital, and then was a supervisor in the storeroom at Weirton Medical Center. Frances retired from Weirton Steel as an inspector in the strip after 27 years of service.

She loved animals and owned quite a menagerie during her life. Frances loved working on her farm in Chester, and she was an entrepreneur as well. She founded FLD Quarter Horses with her stallion “Jim’s Imprint” and three mares, she operated Lit’l Tykes Petting Zoo, and she breed and raised Dalmatians.

Frances found great joy working with young people as the leader of the Flying Hooves 4-H Club and Drill Team, the oldest horse club in Hancock County. She belonged to the Weirton Steel 25-year club, the Hancock County Farm Bureau, and AQHA. Although she was dyslexic, Frances was an avid reader, loved to do ceramics, sand art, and assorted crafts. She loved working with her animals and would often go to help hurt animals with her many friends as well as strangers. Frances was also a philanthropist, donating money to various area churches as well as the New Cumberland Food Bank, and the Mountaineer Clothes Closet.

Along with her parents, her brother, Edgar Lee Dillon preceded her in death.

Surviving is her brothers, Drexel Leon (Shelba) Dillon of Pennsylvania, Argyle Leroy Dillon of Ohio, Marvin Bruce (Diane) Dillon of West Virginia, and her sister, Harriett Jane (Richard) Chambers of Alabama. She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews as well as her longtime friend and caregiver, Eileen Collins. In fulfilling Frances’s wishes, no services are planned, and cremations services have been entrusted to the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester.
