David Duane Kirkwood

David Duane Kirkwood of New Cumberland passed in the emergency room at East Liverpool City Hospital, after becoming suddenly ill at his home, on Thursday, April 7, 2022.

Dave is the son of Priscilla Camerlin Kirkwood of New Cumberland and the late Russell Kirkwood. He was born in New Brighton, PA., on June 22, 1968. Dave was 53 years old.

He graduated from Oak Glen High School in 1986 and attended West Virginia University for three years before being bitten by the allure of working on the river. Dave worked for several companies up and down the river, before becoming an independent contractor focused on barge repair. He attended the Glendale Church of the Nazarene where in his youth had participated in Bible quizzes and talent programs. In his spare time, Dave enjoyed working outdoors. He always had a smile on his face and loved making people laugh. Dave never met a stranger.

In addition to his mother, Dave is survived by his sister, Cindy Stricklen, her husband Richard, and their two children, his niece Mariah Stricklen, of St. Albans, WV., and his nephew Matthew Stricklen of Andrews AFB, MD. He is also survived by aunts, an uncle, and many cousins. 

  Dave’s family will be present to receive friends at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Monday, April 11, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Pastor Phil Rigden will conduct services there on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. and the interment will follow at the Locust Hill Cemetery.
