Cletus Payne Jr. Obituary

Cletus Payne Jr., 67, of East Liverpool, was reunited with his late parents on Friday, August 28, 2020. He passed at the Valley Hospice Care Center North at Trinity West in Steubenville following a lengthy illness.

Born, January 31, 1953, in East Liverpool, he was a son of the late Cletus Sr. Leona Daughtery Payne.

Cletus was a 1971 graduate of East Liverpool High School and later attended Kent State University. He loved Baseball, Cletus spent many years coaching area youth, and he served as an officer for the Old Timers Baseball Association. Also, he was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and he loved to golf. A persistent soul, Cletus never met a challenge that he was not willing to accept. Anyone who knew him, knew of his humorous, welcoming, and caring personality, a trait that all will remember. He had been employed at the former Crucible Steel in Midland, the former Smith Lumber Company, 84 Lumber Company, Milligan’s Hardware, and Scott Lumber in Weirton.

Cletus leaves a void that can never be filled, he will be fondly remembered by his longtime companion, Pat McGee, his children, Brad (Nicki) Payne  of Lucky, OH., and Ryan (Vanessa) Payne of Stokes, NC.; his step-children, Steven (Dee) McGee of Thompson, OH., and Julie (Shawn) Henthorn of East Liverpool, his brother, Charles (Rebecca) Payne of East Liverpool, and his sister, Carolyn (Jamie) Beverly of East Liverpool. His grandchildren are, Daniel, Nathan, Brenna, Emily, Ryan, and Kevan Payne. He also leaves his step-grandchildren, Liam, Rowan, and Aiden McGee, and Guage, Dorian, and Efrem Henthorn, and one great-granddaughter, Vera.

Due to the currant Covid-19 pandemic, Cletus’s family will be holding a small private service. He will be interred with his parents at Longs Run Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that contributions be made in his name to Valley Hospice at www.valleyhospice.org. The Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester is assisting with these arrangements.
