Charles N. “Charlie” DeLong, 83, was devoted to his family and his lord and savior Jesus Christ. A true Christian, he found great pleasure in help others and supporting his children and grandchildren in all their endeavors. He passed, surrounded by family at his home in Shepherds Valley in Chester on Saturday, May 8, 2021.
Born to the late Darwon and Iva Martin DeLong in Weirton on November 15, 1937, he was raised in Colliers.
Charlie was a loyal and faithful member of the Virginia Avenue Church of Christ in Chester where he was a former Deacon, song leader, teacher of the gospel, and he played a vital role in the reconstruction of the current building. He loved hunting with his rabbit and bird dogs, and he had attended Brooke County Schools. Charlie was retired as a welder at Weirton Steel.
Along with his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his son, William Scott DeLong, and his brother, William “Bud” DeLong.
Charlie leaves his wife of 44 years, Barbara Raines DeLong, his children, Terri Patterson of Colliers, WV., Bonnie DeLong Ruckman of Mingo Junction, OH., Jane Kleineke of Steubenville, and Charles M. (Mindi) DeLong of Georgetown, PA., and his sisters, Frances Rice of Colliers, Betty Howell of Colliers, and Janice Smith of Mount Lebanon, PA., and his sister-in-law Doris DeLong of Colliers. Also, he leaves eight grandchildren, Kellie Patterson, Hollie Patterson, Alexandra Harless, Jessica Taliani, Corin Kleineke, Cassidy DeLong Ruckman, Luke DeLong Ruckman, and Tucker DeLong, and seven great-grandchildren.
Evangelist Ricco Brown will celebrate Charlie’s life at Virginia Ave. Church of Christ in Chester on Wednesday, May 12, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Locust Hill Cemetery in Chester. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the church today, Tuesday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. and Wednesday two hours prior to the service, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. These arrangements are in the care of the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester.
