Charles Butler Obituary

Charles A. Butler, devoted husband and loving father, passed away peacefully at Allegheny
General Hospital on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at the age of 81.
The son of Clyde R. and Callie E. Powell Butler. He was born, on February 25, 1942, in
New Martinsville, WV.
After the passing of his mother, Charley was raised in the Children’s home in New
Cumberland, WV, where he was known for getting into some orneriness. Upon, graduating
from Chester High School, in 1961, Charley proudly served in the United States Army.
When he returned home from Germany, he met the love of his life, Carol Ann Angle. They
were married on September 25, 1964, and just recently celebrated their 59 th anniversary.
Charley retired from Weirton Steel in 1993. After which, he went to work for the State Road,
where he loved driving the snowplow in the winter. Later, he collected tickets in the toll
booth of the Newell Bridge, where he never failed to greet everyone with a smile and a
lollipop for the kids. He was even responsible for helping to save the life of a jumper while
working there.
His hobbies include woodworking, gardening, and farming. He spent countless hours on
his friends’ farms mowing, plowing, and bailing hay. He also loved sitting for hours on his
porch swing watching the birds. When he wasn’t on his swing, he could often be seen
traveling the neighborhood on his scooter or golf cart. He made daily trips, always stopping
to talk and say hello to everyone he saw. But above all, Charley loved his family, especially
his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They meant the world to him. He was always
laughing, playing, and tormenting them.
Besides his parents, Charley was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Chrissaundra
Ann Butler, and three sisters, Grace Brown, Mary Mitchell, and Sarah Winland.
Along with his loving wife Carol, left to cherish his memories are his two children Christine
Wynn (Francis) and Charlie Butler Jr. (Karen) of Chester. His grandchildren: Ashley Vojtas
(Ronnie), Casey Jo Wynn, Charlie Butler III, Morgan Butler, Adam Butler, Jonathan Wynn,
Allison Wynn and Michael Wynn, great-grandchildren, Callie, Eloise, Lorelai (“Roy”) and
Gabriella (“GiGi”) as their PopPop affectionately called them, and a sister Charlotte Brown,
