Okey Sayre Jr., 84, a lifetime resident of Chester, passed away at the Weirton Medical Center on Saturday, December 16, 2017, following a lengthy illness.

Born in Chester on November 13, 1933, he was a son of the late Okey Sayre Sr. and Elsie Sayre.

Okey was a retired custodial supervisor for the Hancock School System and an avid hunter. He attended Chester schools and the Chester First Church of the Nazarene.

A proud veteran, Okey served his country as an air traffic controller with the US Air Force from 1951 to 1957.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, David Wayne Sayre and Julie Ann Sayre; and his brother, James Sayre.

Okey leaves his loving and caring family, wife, Sheila Gilbert Sayre who he married in 1957; son Bill Sayre and his wife Kathi of Edenton, North Carolina; and grandchildren, Lindsey Spilecki, and Leah Elizabeth Sayre.

Retired Nazarene minister, Tim Bess will conduct services at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Wednesday, December 20, at 4:00 p.m. The family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the services.
