Chester, WV.

Margaret Joan Briggs, 85 of Chester passed away at the Stone Pear Pavilion, where she was called home to heaven by a choir of angels on Sunday, October 28, 2018.

A daughter of the late Virgil Raymond and Ortie Davis Hassig, Joan was born in New Martinsville, WV on August 11th, 1933.  Joan lived in New Martinsville where she graduated from Magnolia High School.  She married Gene Briggs on June 16th, 1960 and at that time they moved to New Cumberland, WV and then later to Chester.

Joan was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. Together with her husband, Gene, they raised three children on their farm in Chester. She was a faithful member and Sunday School Teacher at Emmanuel Mission in Chester.  Joan loved spending time with her family and friends.  She, like her Dad, enjoyed playing cards both with her family and at the monthly card club socials.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Briggs, her brother Charles Hassig, and sister Shirley Hood.

Family members left to cherish memories of her are daughters, Barb Barrett and her husband Bruce of Lisbon, Ohio; Kim Pettit and her husband Roger of Marysville, Ohio; and son, Tommy Briggs and his wife Becky of Chester, WV. She also leaves her grandchildren, Roger “Buddy” Pettit, wife Natalie; Jamie Stine, husband Brian; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Vivian Pettit, and Mackenzie Stine; and sister, Jean Keith of New Martinsville; brothers-in-law, Wayne Briggs of Weirton and Jerry Briggs of Wileyville as well as many nieces and nephews.  She will also be fondly remembered by Sandy Briggs.

Funeral Services will be conducted at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Saturday, November 3rd at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at New Cumberland Cemetery in New Cumberland, WV. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday one hour prior to the services.
