John G. McDevitt, 57, of Chester, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, December 31, 2018, following a long battle with liver disease and kidney failure.
Born on July 30, 1961, in East Liverpool, he is the son of Jack McDevitt of Chester and the late Alyce Ann Eppley McDevitt.
John was a 1979 graduate of Oak Glen High School. Following graduation, he attended Bethany College where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology with honors in 1983 and also played on the tennis team. John continued his studies at the University of Georgia, earning his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, graduating first in his class. He then completed an Internal Medicine residency at Michigan State College of Veterinary Medicine.
Despite his illness, John maintained a great sense of humor and quick wit that always entertained those around him.
John is a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chester.
He is survived by his father, Jack McDevitt of Chester; sister, Aynn Upton, and her husband, Jim, of Corpus Christi, TX; and nephew, Andrew Upton, and niece, Kaitlyn Upton, both of Corpus Christi, TX.
Rev. Katrina Lewis will celebrate John’s life on Friday, January 4, 2019, at the Arner Funeral Chapel, at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Locust Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit the funeral home Thursday, January 3, 2019, from 2:00PM-4:00PM and 6:00PM-8:00PM.
