George G. Gibson, 89, of Chester, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 9, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was a kind, humble man with a kind heart. George performed many kind deeds for many people that only they know.
Born, September 19, 1928, in Cairo, WV., he was a son of the late George Gibson and Neva Jackson Maze.
George was a graduate of Cairo High School and he was a Nazarene by faith. He proudly served his country with the United States Army where attained the rank of Corporal. He served with the Military Police during the Korean Conflict.
George retired from Crucible Steel after 35 years of service. After retirement, he was employed by Chaney’s Service Station for 14 years.
George was a Free and Accepted Mason with the Cairo Lodge #114 for 68 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #114 for 64 years.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 65 years, Josephine Sayre Gibson; daughter, Diane Haines and her husband Rick of Chester; his favorite sister-in-law- Mary Bowen and by many nieces and nephews.
Private services were held at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Monday, August 13. Interment followed at Locust Hill Cemetery where full military honors were accorded by the WV. National Guard and the American Legion Post #114 and VFW Post 6450 honor guard. Masonic services were also given at the graveside.
