Donald Dwane Doak, 84, died on June 20^th, 2017, following a tenacious fight with cancer.

He was born in Georgetown, Pa, the son of F. Wayne and H. Ella Doak. While he was sibling to Thomas, Geraldine, Francis, James, and Mary Jane, one would hear him called ‘Brother’ from any corner of his hometown along the Ohio River. To his grandchildren, he was ‘Pap,’ the attentive and smiling storyteller.

At Midland High School, Donald was a two-sport athlete, both the starting quarterback and the sure-handed third baseman. Upon graduation, he joined the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. He returned to Georgetown and began his true duty by marrying Esther Mae and welcoming two beautiful daughters to the family, Laurey and Vicki.

In Georgetown, tradition is honored. Respect is ritual. The Pittsburgh Pirates are always on the television. And Donald provided for his family. He went to work at Crucible Steel in the nearby Midland plant, working as a Structural Shop Scheduler. The work was as tied to the town as a man is to his heritage. Donald worked at Crucible Steel until his retirement in 1986.

Donald was never far from the either the green of the woods behind his Market Street home or the green of the nearest golf course. He was an avid hunter and golfer. He also gifted his passion for the history of the American Civil War to his daughters, who now spend countless hours walking the Gettysburg battlefield. To his grandchildren, he was a bard of baseball lore. To everyone in town, he was always available to help. He was loved by any who knew him. To his last, he charmed with his doting doe eyes and inviting smile.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Esther Mae; his two vigilant daughters, Laurey and husband, Gary, and Vicki; his brothers, Francis and wife Violet, and James and wife Karen; sister Mary Jane and sister-in-law, Ginger; his five grandchildren, Zachary, Quintin, Wyatt, Joshua and wife Beth, and Ethan and wife Johanna; and his four great-grandchildren, Ella, Robby, Willow, and Lucy. 

A memorial service will be held at the Georgetown United Methodist Church at 11 AM on Saturday, July 15, 2017. Donald will be laid to rest in Mill Creek Cemetery.
