David S. Smith, of Chester, passed away at Heritage Valley Hospital in Sewickley on Monday, August 13, 2018, after becoming suddenly ill. David had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease several years ago.
64 years old, he was a lifelong resident of Chester after being born in Bellevue, Pennsylvania on April 11, 1954. David was a son of Janet R. Robinson Smith of Chester and the late Donald S. Smith.
After fifteen years, he retired from Lowes Home Improvement store in Robinson. A licensed insurance agent, David operated the Smith Insurance Agency in Chester for 25 years. He was a 1972 graduate of Oak Glen High School and a member of the Glenmore Presbyterian Church. A wonderful father, David was also involved in his children’s activities. For several years he served as Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop #27 in Chester. Earlier he served as the Cub Scout Cub Master. A 32degree mason, David was the Past Master of the Chester Masonic Lodge and was currently a member of Masonic Lodge #22 AF and AM in New Cumberland. Also, David was a member and past president of the Chester Lions Club.
In addition to his father, He was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. James Smith.
David leaves behind his loved ones, his companion, Marilyn Miller of Chester; his children, Ashley (Kevin) Dahlman of Cincinnati, OH., William (Sanya) Whitaker of Maryland, and Patrick and Nathan Smith of Morgantown, WV. There is one grandson, Henry Whitaker; two brothers, Donald (Dee Dee) Smith of Phoenix, AZ., and Darwin (Pam) Smith of New Philadelphia, OH., and one sister, Janet (David) Debranski of Pittsburgh, PA.
A memorial gathering to Celebrate David’s life will be held at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Friday, August 17 from 4-7 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. His Pastor, Vel Vais will officiate.
