Charles R. McGown, 81 of Lisbon passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 30, 2019, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Newell on May 26, 1938, he was a son of the late Oral A. Mary E. Powell McGown.
Charles retired after a 25-year career as an industrial engineer at Metsch Refractories in Chester, and he proudly served his country with the US Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. A graduate of the former Wells High School in Newell, he was a member of AMVETS in Richfield, OH., and he was a former lay leader at the First United Methodist Church in Newell.
Preceding him in death, along with his parents, was his wife, Judy K. McGown, and one brother, Donald E. McGown.
Charles leaves three children, Bryan McGown and his wife Deborah of Akron, Lisa Arkwright and her husband, William of Lisbon, and Ricky McGown and his wife Lindsay of Salem. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren survive as well, Kristy (Arin) Riemenschneider and their children, Emery and Ella, Vanessa (Nicholas) Wilson and their children, Olivia, Sophia, and Isabella, step-granddaughter, Sarah (Allen) Riffle and her son, Weston, Christian and Jacob McGown, and Andrea and William Arkwright III, along with several nieces and nephews.
Military funeral honors and celebration of life for U.S. Navy Veteran Charles R. McGown, will be conducted on Saturday, July 20, 2019, at VFW Post 4111, 210 E. Lincoln Way, Lisbon, Ohio 44432.
Parking is in the rear.
Family will receive guests from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm, with services to be conducted by Southern Care Chaplain, Ellie Barney, and Chaplain Lisa Calabrette, of the Tri-State Marine Corps League Post 494, and DAV Chapter 2.
Military Honors are expected to be conducted by U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, DAV, Marine Corps League, and bagpipes by Derek Sullivan.
Services are set to begin at 2:00 pm.
