Sara Elizabeth Chaney Melott, 87 of Chester passed away on Sunday January 6, 2013 at the Weirton Medical Center due to complications from pneumonia.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Dale F. Melott in 2008.
Sara was born in Chester on May 2, 1925 to the late William A. and Lulu Vann Cochran Chaney.
A 1943 graduate of Chester High School, she also graduated from the Ohio Valley Business College.
She was a very active member of the Chester First Christian Church where she was involved in many church activities. Also was she was a very passionate bowler.
In the 1950’s she worked for Dr. Wolpert in East Liverpool and at the East Liverpool City Hospitals X ray department before moving to Ft. Lauderdale, FL; in 1969. While in Florida she worked for several Doctors and hospitals until a stroke in 2005 forced her retirement. In 2007 she returned to her native home in Chester.
Survivors include her son, Dale (Ed) Melott of Chester, her daughter, Pam Migliore of Oklahoma, her two grandchildren, Shane Migliore and Susan Cline and her great grandchild, Summer, as well as a great grandson due in March.
In addition her sister Maxine Scarry and her husband Bill of Chester, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Services will be held on Thursday at 1:00 pm at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester with Pastor Stacy Popejoy of the Church officiating. Interment will follow at Locust Hill Cemetery in Chester. Family and friends will gather on Wednesday at the funeral home from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. At the conclusion of the committal services on Thursday her family and friends will continue to celebrate Sara’s life with a gathering of food and fellowship at the Chester First Christian Church Fellowship Hall.
