Lewis J. Eskra, 97, lifelong resident of Chester passed away at the Ames Family Hospice in Westlake, OH., on Saturday, November 11, 2017.
Born in Chester on August 11, 1920, Lew was the son of the late George and Frances Pliska Eskra.
After 38 years, he retired as a Millwright from the former Crucible Steel in Midland. Lew was baptized, raised, and remained a faithful member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He honorably served his country as a member of the US Army during WW II. Lew was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 121 and VFW Post 6450 in Chester, and he graduated from the former Chester High School.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Laneve Eskra on April 12, 2011, and by his siblings, Stefanie Eskra, Agnes Sepkoski, Gertrude Tabor, and Viola Eskra.
His loving and caring family includes his children, George (Diane) Eskra of Cincinnati, Frances (Tony) Vinci of Westlake, OH., and Greg (Diann) Eskra of Leetonia; his grandchildren, Karen Zengel, Sarah McKay, Tora Hriczik, Dana Vinci, Tony Vinci, Austin Eskra, and Haley Eskra; and his great-grandchildren, Emilie, Abraham, and Nora Zengel, Samuel and Jacob McKay, and Leo Hriczik. Several nieces and nephews survive as well.
Friends are invited to visit with the family at the Arner Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, November 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. Father Shibi Devasia will preside over Catholic Funeral Liturgy at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chester. Entombment will follow at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens in Newell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 418 Fourth St., Chester, WV. 26034.
