Larry R. Snyder, 67 of Chester passed away at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 after very brief illness.

Known affectionately around town as the “Bird”, Larry was one of Chester’s more colorful characters. Armed with a friendly smile and the gift of gab, he always had an interesting story to share.

He retired from the Coke Plant at Weirton Steel and he was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church where he was a member of the Board of Trustees and was usually the first person you met upon entering the church. Larry was a 1968 graduate of Steubenville Big Red High School, and he was probably one their biggest fans. He was a football season ticket holder for longer than anyone can remember and he was a member of the Big Red Boosters. Also he was a veteran of the US Army and a former member of the Chester Lions Club.

Left to mourn his loss is his wife, Christina M. Abrams Snyder; his daughter, Jessica (John) Hooker of Chester; his granddaughter, Kamille Hooker; brother-in-law, Jay Abrams of Oklahoma City; his brother, Herbert Snyder of California; and his sister, Roberta Snyder of Arizona.

Larry’s pastor, Rev. Katrina Lewis will conduct services on Saturday, March 25 at 11:00 a.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 508 Indiana Ave, Chester, WV. A gathering for food and fellowship will be held in the church fellowship hall at the conclusion of the services, followed by interment at Fort Steuben Burial Estates in Steubenville. His family will receive friends at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Friday from 12-2 and 4-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church or the Anchor House after school program at the church.
