Helen Joanne Hickman, Born November 15, 1936, to the late Paul and Ruth Conkle of Chester, WV.

She had 3 brothers; Ronald, Neal and Jim; three sisters, Norma, Linda and Grace;  all born and raised in Hancock County.

Helen was a graduate of Chester High School, Class of 1955.

She was a proud veteran of The Women’s Army Corp. While serving her country, she met and married the late George E. Hickman.

Helen was also preceded in death by her daughter, Paula Ann Hickman.

She is survived by her four children, George E. Hickman Jr. of Greensboro, NC., Bret A. Hickman of Bear Creek, NC.,  Daniela Marie Fletcher of Canvas, WV. and Edward W. Hickman of Randleman, NC.; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Helen was retired from 17 years of employment with Waterford Park Golf course, a wonderful mother to her five children that she raised after the death of her husband. She was avid golfer and bowler. She participated in leagues of both sports and enjoyed many sports. Finishing with her love of Nascar racing, building puzzles and being called the puzzle lady.

She had many friends in the Tri-state area and will be missed dearly by Darlene Grimm who had been a true friend and had helped take care of her for many years.

No services are planned at this time and she is in the care of the Arner Funeral Chapel.
