Helen L. Fowler, 83, formerly of Chester died at the Calcutta Health Care Center where she had resided for the past three years.

A daughter of the late Arthur and Edith Bailey Parrish, Helen was born in Newell on June 30, 1934.

Along with her husband, Leland Fowler, who died on July 20, 2008, she operated the Fowler Insurance Agency in Chester and Newell. She was a member of the Newell First Church of the Nazarene, and she was a 1951 graduate of the former Chester High School.

Along with her parents and second husband, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Vitalune, one sister, Elsie Stuchell, and her nephew, Steve Kourpas.

Survivors include her siblings, Grace Kourpas of Chester, Marion Kerns of Newton Falls, OH; Ralph (June) Parish of San Antonio, TX; and Howard Parish and his friend, Beverly Williamson of New Manchester, WV. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The former pastor of the Newell First Church, Charlie Marker will celebrate Helen’s life at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Tuesday, July 25, at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Columbiana County Memorial Park in Calcutta. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home today (Monday) from 3-8 p.m.
